When should you visit Madrid?
Madrid is Spain’s energetic capital, built around grand boulevards, historic plazas, late dinners and a nightlife scene that barely seems to slow down. Spring and autumn bring the best balance of comfortable weather, manageable crowds and good value, while summer delivers long sunny days but much higher heat.

Plan around
What to know before you book
- Plan around the heat
- Madrid is much easier to explore when you respect the temperature. In July and August, avoid scheduling long walking routes in the middle of the afternoon. Start early, slow down over lunch and save parks, rooftops and neighbourhood wandering for the cooler evening hours.
- The sweet spot
- May, September and October offer the strongest overall balance. You get comfortable conditions for sightseeing without the extremes of Madrid’s summer heat.
- For a quieter trip
- Choose January, February or November if you care more about space, prices and museums than warm weather. These months make it easier to explore Madrid at a slower pace.

Madrid travel tip
Madrid is a late-night city. Don’t plan your entire day around an early dinner. Eat later, take an evening walk through the centre and leave room for drinks or tapas after dark.
